The deity of a Panchmukhi Hanuman temple has been desecrated in Trikuta Nagar last night which resulted in a massive protest by Hindu citizens of the locality today. The incident took place on the outskirts of sector 5 of Trikuta Nagar near the main Nullah.

The desecration came to light as local Hindu women reached the temple to worship Bhagwan Panchmukhi Hanuman early morning. They found that the deity was broken into pieces.  Soon people started gathering and a huge protest erupted. The local police from Trikuta Nagar Police Station rushed to the spot to see the matter.

The local temple committee head Ajay Gupta led the protest that was also supported by Hindu activists affiliated to Bajrang Dal. A huge number of Hindu women took part in the protest and some of them blocked the road and sat down.

The police surprisingly started acting weird or better termed as ‘unfortunate’ when they started proposing impractical options.  Sub Inspector Vikash took no time to switch from ‘investigation going on’ to ‘may be done by an animal’ in one breath.

“We can’t say anything without investigating fully. I don’t think this is done by any notorious guy, it must have been done by some animal. Because if a person would have done it, he would desecrate both the deities and not one,” said Sub-Inspector Vikash. The locals have something else to say- “We found traced some of the pieces of the broken idol in the adjoining nullah.”

Inspector Bharat’s advice to the protestors was more funny, rather unfortunate. “You can install a new deity, why create a mess out of it?”

The local temple committee leaders demanded strict action against the culprits so that harmony can be maintained in the city. “It is a conspiracy to disturb the peace and provoke the Hindus. Every year when Amarnath Yatra comes closer, such incidents become frequent. The Govt must ensure such things don’t happen,” they said.

The protesters also complained that no administrative representative has come to meet them and they also denied to allow any political party if anyone comes- though none came. “They are all same, against Hindus, ” the protesters said indicating the failure of BJP-PDP alliance to safeguard the Hindu interests in the turbulent state. “We are affiliated with no political organization and it’s a spontaneous Hindu protest,” a Bajrang Dal activist said.

Tyres were burnt on the road as a part of the protest. The other side of the nullah has a Muslim ghetto. Incidents of temple desecration in Jammu has increased in last few months. A Shiv Mandir desecration by a Muslim miscreant in old city and another by a Sikh fanatic in adjoining Gandhinagar resulted in massive outrage among Hindus. However the bias of administration and police has left Hindus with a sense of insecurity.
