Faizabad, 8th March 2017: A 14-year-old girl has been abducted a fortnight ago by a group and no trace has been found of her ever since. Phula Devi, the mother of Khushboo (name changed) has filed a complaint at the local Kotwali Nagar Police Station.

The complainant is a Dalit who puts her blood and sweat together to earn two square meals for her differently abled son Ram Tirath and daughter Khushboo. At 5:30 pm on the unfortunate day of February 23rd, when Phula Devi went out for housekeeping other homes, four goons namely Faizi alias Irfan, Shahrukh Khan, Nanku and Moharram Ali entered her home forcefully and abducted Khushboo and for resisting them, Ram Tirath was inhumanly thrashed. Ram Tirath later narrated the incident to his mother.

The main perpetrator is identified by Ram Tirath as Irfan Alias Faizi son of Moharram Ali, who resides near ITI. Moharram Ali is also known for his black magic practices. When Phula Devi went to the assailant’s house Moharram Ali, the bereaved mother was doused with derogatory adjectives like “madarch@d,” (Motherf#cker) “chama@ran sa#li” (a slur vented against Dalits) “Teri himmat kaise huyi humare khilaaf shikayat karne ki” (How dare you complain against us) along with other castist derogatory remarks too offensive to be used for a woman.

Traumatized Phula Devi earlier filed a complaint to the SHO of Kotwali Nagar Police Station, Faizabad, which hardly triggered any action from the police and this inaction led to a fear and discontent in the victim’s family that she might be raped, sold out or even killed by the abductors. Phula Devi has expressed her anxiety in the FIR.

But this time in a fresh complaint that is now converted to FIR, she has demanded a swift and effective police action to recover her daughter and bring the accused to justice.

Such incidents are not new to this area. Vijiay Kumar, a resident of the area on being asked said “there is no use in going to the police. The media and politicians only talk about Dalits but when we face it from a particular community, no one comes to our rescue, let alone protection.”

There is an ever increasing anger amongst the locals against the torch bearers of Dalit-Muslim unity and the passiveness of the Police administration is only adding fuel to the anguish.
